Rochon was the only daughter born to Zelma Staples. A businessman, she is also Zelma's daughters nurse specialist. Cerritos high school located in Cerritos is where she graduated from. In 1986, she graduated from California State University Dominguez Hill (CSUDH) with a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism. She also majored in Theatre and Sociology.
